FORTHCOMING: "FAIR-PLAY AND COLLABORATION" IN YEREVAN: 14-15 JANUARY

The next workshop within the Book Platform project will take place on 14-15 January in Armenia. The workshop is entitled "Fair-Play and Collaboration: Intellectual property, working conditions and collaborative actions for writers and literary translators", and will be hosted by American University of Armenia. FORTHCOMING: BOOK PLATFORM PROJECT PUBLIC PRESENTATION IN YEREVAN, 16 JANUARY

The project's achievements and future plans will be presented to organizations in the books sector, media and the general public at the National Children's Library in Yerevan on the 16 January (Wednesday) at 11:00. The event will be opened by a representative of the Ministry of Culture of Armenia and the EU Delegation to Armenia, followed by a presentation by Yana Genova, Book Platform manager from Next Page Foundation, with an input from representatives of the book sector in Armenia. The event will be followed by a reception at the venue.

The second workshop for 2013 within the Book Platform project will take place on 25-26 January in Tbilisi. The workshop will be hosted by National Library of Georgia. Invited speakers, discussants and moderators include: Daniel Hahn (UK) − Director of British Center for Literary Translations, author, translator; Lasha Bakradze (Georgia) − Director of Literature Museum; Medea Shengelia (Georgia) − A lawyer from Georgian Copyright Association; Yana Genova (Bulgaria) − Director Next Page Foundation and manager of Book Platform project. FORTHCOMING: BOOK PLATFORM PROJECT PUBLIC PRESENTATION IN TBILISI, 25 JANUARY

The project's achievements and future plans will be presented to organizations in the books sector, media and the general public in the Exhibition Hall of the National Library of Georgia in Tbilisi on the 25 January (Friday) at 19 h. The event will be opened by a representative of the Ministry of Culture (tbc) and the EU Delegation to Georgia (tbc), followed by a presentation by Yana Genova, Book Platform manager from Next Page Foundation, with an input from representatives of the book sector in Georgia. The event will be followed by a reception at the venue.


"FAIR-PLAY AND COLLABORATION" TOOK PLACE PLACE IN LVIV ON 15-16 DECEMBER


Fair-Play and Collaboration! The fourth capacity building event within the Book Platform project took place on 15-16 December in Lviv. Authors and translators, mostly from the younger generation that will shape tomorrow's literary landscape in Ukraine, gathered for a two-day workshop in Lviv to discuss what can they jointly do to improve standards in the book trade. The workshop entitled "Fair-Play and Collaboration" was opened by Orest Sheyka of the Lviv Regional Council who confirmed the local authorities' commitment to developing Lviv as a city of books and literature. OUR SPEAKER FOR THE LVIV WORKSHOP DONATES HIS CONSULTANCY FEE TO THE BOOK PLATFORM PROJECT

Bas Pauw of the Dutch Foundation for Literature had entrusted the full amount of his fee as a speaker at the latest Lviv workshop to the Book Platform project and specifically to the newly formed Ukrainian Association of literary translators and authors for its participation in international networks. The donation will effectively reach its addressee once the association is legally registered. Bas Pauw's donation is an expression of his deep commitment to literary translation all over the world. We also take it as a recognition of the efforts of our Ukrainian colleagues in raising the collective voice of translators in Ukraine as well as of the Book Platform's aims in general. BOOK PLATFORM SOFIA SUMMIT 2012

Annual meeting of the Book Platform Project Partners took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, 7-9 December 2012. The meeting was organized by Next Page in order to give an opportunity to discussing key aspects of project implementation, as well as to facilitate planning for the next project period based on lessons learned from the project developments so far.



SELECTED EXPERTS FOR THE STUDY ON BOOK PUBLISHING IN ARMENIA

Тhe local researchers have been selected who will study the Publishing Market of Armenia. The Board of the National Publishers Association chose Aram Navasardyan and Davit Dabaghyan to carry out that survey. Over the next two months they will be working with the Book Platform senior expert on publishing - Ruediger Wischenbart to develop the study "Book Publishing as a Key Cultural Industry in Armenia".

Aram Navasardyan has 15 years research experience in Armenian market. He has experience managing and implementing more than 500 middle and large scale research projects, covering more than 80 spheres from general socio-economical researches up to specific corruption issues in education system and good governance issues. Mr. Navasardyan is also Director of MPG LLC - the exclusive representative of Gallup International Association in Armenia.

Davit Dabaghyan is a co-founder of Armenian Marketing Association NGO, has over 15 years of work experience in consulting and executive management, including extensive international experience in the USA, Europe and Asia. As international consultant, he has been employed by ADB, GFA consulting group and has been engaged in EU and UN projects.
