  Forthcoming: Save the Date! Book Platform presentation at Frankfurt Book Fair 2013

The Book Platform project of Next Page Foundation will present and discuss ground-breaking research on the book industries of Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine at Frankfurt Book Fair 2013 during "Publishing in the European Neighbourhood". The event will take place on October 10 (Thursday), 17:30-18:30 at Forum Dialogue, hall 5.1 A122 Exhibition site.   Forthcoming: Public discussion "Two Way Street: Ukraine Translations in the Last Twenty Years"

Book Platform project and NGO Publishers' Forum in cooperation with Goethe Institute/Schriftzüge, Union of translators and writers, Open Ukraine Foundation and Calvaria Publishing House Foundation kindly invite you to participate in policy debates on outcomes of studies on translations from and into Ukrainian language that were undertaken after 1991. Discussion will be held during 20. Lviv International Book Fair and Literature Festival on September 13, 2013 at the Center for Urban History of East Central Europe. Read more...


  Forthcoming: Editorial visits-Ukraine to take place during 20th Publishers Forum

Editorial visits-Ukraine within the Book Platform project will be implemented during the 20th Lviv International Book Fair and Literature Festival, which will be held in September 10-15, 2013. Organized by Next Page Foundation (Bulgaria), NGO Publishers' Forum (Ukraine) and Calvaria Publishing House (Ukraine). The editorial visits aim at broader presentation of Ukrainian book market to European editors, publishers, cultural journalists, translators. During working visits guests from Poland, Germany, France, Norway and other countries will participate in business meetings and literature events with Ukrainian publishers, authors and translators. Editorial visits will be great contribution towards increasing the cultural cooperation and will facilitate the contemporary literary and translations process in European countries. Read more...


  New Study: Translations from Ukrainian after 1991

Translations from Ukrainian after 1991. Facts, trends, recommendations is the outcome of a year-long study mapping translations from the Ukrainian language into ten other languages from the year 1991 to date. The texts included here are largely based on the work of researchers commissioned by the Publishers Forum – Lviv, who have prepared complete bibliographies and in-depth analyses of translations from Ukrainian into Armenian, Czech, English, French, Georgian, German, Norwegian, Polish, Serbian and Swedish.   New Study: Translations into Ukrainian 1992-2012

The texts in the brochure Translations into Ukrainian 1992-2012 focus on the state of book translations from foreign languages into Ukrainian over the last 20 years. To provide the discussions on translations into Ukrainian with a context and a perspective, the Book Platform project commissioned a profound study on translations to the Ukrainian expert Kostyantyn Rodyk, two commentaries on its results by Ukrainian professionals in the book/translation sector as well as an external view and policy recommendations to Peter Inkei, an expert in cultural policy.   New Study: Publishing and Bookselling in Ukraine

Publishing and Bookselling in Ukraine. Results of a survey on book publishing and distribution, 2012-2013 presents a summary of the study of the Ukrainian book sector and its main findings and conclusions, as well as two expert opinions on it. This is the first time that a study of book publishing and book distribution in Ukraine has been carried out on such a scale. The study is based on years of systematic collection of information by the Ukrainian Association of Book Publishers and Book Sellers (UABB), while the report was commissioned by the Publishers Forum (Lviv) as part of the Book Platform project. The report provides information about the state of the Ukrainian publishing sector from 2002 until 2012. Read more...


  Visiting news: Translation Funding Programme: $7.6 Million in 10 Years 

Together, Brazil's Ministry of Culture and the National Library Foundation administer the "Program for Supporting the Transla­tion and Publishing of Brazilian Authors Abroad"— a US$ 7.6 million commitment to support the translation of Brazilian works abroad through the year 2020. To date, this is the Brazilian govern­ment's largest investment in promoting its literature and authors to an international au­dience. The programme supports literature of all genres as well as reissued books. The National Library Foundation of­fers grants worth between US$ 2000 and US$ 8000 per work. Reissues of titles that were translated within the last three years will receive financial support worth of US$ 500 to US$ 4000 per work. Companies that have acquired the rights to publish Brazilian authors may apply. Application instructions, forms and more information can be found here.
