Public Discussion on Readership in Georgia

4 March 2013 and 31 May 2014, Tbilisi
The presentation and the discussion of the survey Reading Habits in Georgia was held in the conference room of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia on March 4, 2013. With a rusty weather outside, one of the common habits of Georgians could be observed: most of the people preferred to stay at home and read a book in such weather. Nevertheless, an audience of around 15 people arrived and were eager to hear about the results of the survey. Natia Melikidze, the representative of Experto – provided an in-depth overview of the whole research through a very detailed presentation. To sum up the survey and further analyze the results through a broader perspective – Giorgi Kekelidze (general director of the National Library of the Parliament of Georgia) spoke from his point of view. Masho Samadashvili (literary journalist) also stressed out the major points and findings of the survey and thanked the consulting company for having carried out the work professionally. After a lively discussion with the audience it was commonly agreed that the survey should be recognized as an important step forward for further dialogue on readership in Georgia and should be presented to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of culture through the GPBA. The event was followed by a small reception and further informal discussion around the buffet.
