Yury Zavadsky at the Belarusian-Swedish Literary Days in Vilnius

16-18 May 2014
With the support of the Book Platform project Yury Zavadsky, poet and publishing manager of the Ukrainian publishing house "Krok", visited Belarusian-Swedish Literary Days in Vilnius (Lithuania), which took place on May 16-18, 2014. During the three days of the Festival, he was involved in around 20 different activities. Among them there were literary and business discussions, lectures, readings, performances, meetings with authors, publishers, film-makers, translators, cultural managers such as Uladzimir Arlou, Andrej Kotljarchuk, Maria Söderberg, Stefan Ericsson, Cecilia Ruthström-Ruin, Anita Jacobson, Nastya Matsevich, Uladz Liankevich, Arkadij Babtjenko, Zmitser Vajtsiusjkevitj, Dmitri Plax, Uladzimir Niakliaeu, Athena Farrokhzad and others.

Mr. Zavadskyi emphasizes: "For me personally this trip was an opening of a big conglomerate of cultures, languages and people. I highly appreciate the support for this professional trip received from the Book Platform project. I had numerous occasions to share personal visions of international cultural contacts and to plan exchanges in the nearest future. Among the decisions that were made are: publishing several books in Ukraine that will uncover contemporary literature of Sweden with its multiculturalism; common seeking for financial support for publishing Belarusian literature to prevent censorship and language discrimination; publishing examples of Belarusian literature in Ukrainian translation. I've discussed the translations of works by poets present at the Festival into Ukrainian and their participation in some literature events in Ukraine".

This trip was highly fruitful and brought considerable result. Generally speaking they consist in making Ukrainian-Swedish collaboration wider and deeper, establishing more intensive Ukrainian-Belarusian collaboration, especially in translational projects; more intensive work on non-profit projects on promoting Ukrainian and Belarusian literature abroad.
