Sign the Declaration on Encouraging and Promoting Translations!

The Declaration on Encouraging and Promoting
Translations was discussed and endorsed during the international training workshop on Promotion of Literature in Translation (Yerevan, 21-22
February 2014), organized by the Book Platform project in the framework of the EuroEast Programme of the European Union.
This is the first ever document of this kind in the region. It appeals to
the publicly supported organizations in the field of books,
publishing and translations, to adhere to a policy of encouraging translations abroad, which conforms to the principles of transparency, decentralization and openness to
cooperation. Furthermore, the Declaration recommends Policy Instruments for Encouraging
Translations. The Declaration is now open for endorsement by all cultural actors in the European Neighbourhood countries. You can sign it online on the Book Platform website! The text of the Declaration with an online signing button (right below the text of the Declaration) is available here in English and in Russian. If you wish to further spread the word about it, please, feel free to share it with your friends and colleagues! By signing or spreading the word about the Declaration, you contribute to the Book Platform's efforts to make a positive policy change in the promotion of translations, and, ultimately, to the better inclusion of the literatures of the three countries in the international cultural dialogue. Workshop "Promotion of Literature in Translation": Two Days of Professional Debates, Inspiration & New Ideas in Yerevan

The workshop on Promotion of Literature in Translation lasted just two days but it seemed as if the discussions can continue for another two. The
workshop explored the various tools and approaches towards promoting literatures from "small" languages in translation not by offering theories but by showcasing the specific roles of the
various actors in the field. Thus, speakers and contributors, both international and local, were invited to talk about their roles and practices as authors, translators, publishers,
literary agents, public bodies, NGOs. The workshop ended with the endorsement of the Declaration on Encouraging and Promoting Translations - the first ever document

Editorial Visits-Armenia: 3-day Working Visits of European Editors and Agents to Yerevan
|
Six editors and agents from Europe and neighboring countries were hosted in Armenia within the Editorial Visits component of Book Platform project. This
was an exclusive event to bring in a group of professionals interested in Armenian book market for a dialogue with local stake holders. The participants arrived for a three day visit to
meet local publishers, literary agents, journalists and writers to discuss the cooperation opportunities in terms of rights exchange. Guests also had an opportunity to visit cultural
institutions, museums, and historical monuments as well as other places of special interest to extend their knowledge about the county, its culture, history and traditions.

Public Discussion on Translations into Georgian
|
On 25th February Goethe Institute Georgia hosted a very important event for the Georgian publishing sector - public discussion on
translations into Georgian since 1991, based on the outcomes of the study on
translations into Georgian language, conducted within the Book Platform project. The results of the studies are available for free in English and Georgian, both in printed and
electronic format, for a printed publication, please contact GPBA. The discussion was attended by over 30 translators, researchers, publishers, writers, cultural managers and other
stakeholders, who gathered to analyze the outcomes of the studies and to discuss the ways of promotion of translated literature in Georgia and abroad. Read

Visiting News: Frankfurt Fellowship Programme 2014: Focus on children's and YA books
| The Frankfurt Book Fair Fellowship 2014 was announced, with a special focus on children's and YA books. In the run-up to the Frankfurt Book Fair this prestigious Frankfurt Fellowship Programme focuses on information exchange, professional dialogue and the creation of networks between young international publishers. First launched to mark the 50th anniversary of the Frankfurt Book Fair in 1998, the Frankfurt Book Fair Fellowship Programme provides information and networking within the international publishing world. During those last fifteen years, more than 260 participants from 48 countries have gained so far from this experience. The 2014 programme will, for the first time, be geared exclusively toward publishers, editors, rights and licensing professionals, agents and product managers specialised in children's and YA books (print and digital).
