THE THIRD BOOK PLATFORM CAPACITY BUILDING EVENT TOOK PLACE ON 6-7 NOVEMBER IN YEREVAN

The third Book Platform capacity building event took place on 7-8 November in Yerevan, Armenia. The seminar was dedicated to the topic of copyrights in book publishing in Armenia. Rather than a training event in the strict sense of the word, the workshop aimed at providing a platform where opinions and viewpoints of various concerned Armenian stakeholders – publishers, government officials, experts, librarians – could meet to discuss key issues of implementation of the existing legislation.  Read more...



BOOK PLATFORM AT THE VI FORUM OF TRANSLATORS AND PUBLISHERS

The VI Forum of Translators and Publishers, which takes place annually in Yerevan, this year was more international than ever before. In addition to the participants from CIS and Baltic countries, the Forum had invited guests from Germany, the Netherlands, France and other EU countries. The intensive 3-day program featured a presentation of a summary of all results of the Book Platform studies on translations from Armenian into 11 other languages. Yana Genova of Book Platform highlighted and analyzed bibliographic data, major conclusions and strategic recommendations deriving from the studies. LOCAL PARTNER AND STAFF CHANGES

The Book Platform team welcomes aboard Ketevan Jakeli - the new local manager for Georgia, and Iryna Lepska - the new local manager for Ukraine and representative of the new local partner - Publishers Forum-Lviv.

Publishers Forum-Lviv is Book Platform's new local partner in Ukraine
! Since 1994 Publishers Forum has been leading its activity which stimulates the development of the Ukrainian book market and integration of the Ukrainian literature into the world context. The organization has been implementing cultural, educational and social projects aimed at promoting reading and literature, development of book publishing and library sector, increasing of cultural and educational level of children and youth. One of the primary tasks of Publishers Forum is formation of favorable conditions for interaction of Ukrainian and foreign publishers, introduction of authors from various countries to the Ukrainian audience, as well as promotion of the Ukrainian literature abroad. The NGO is repeated participant in the book fairs in Frankfurt, Leipzig, Riga, Vilnius, Warsaw, Krakow, Moscow, was an organizer of Ukrainian publishers stands in Leipzig (2006, 2012 - 2014), with the support of Rinat Akhmetov Fund "Development of Ukraine". "Publishers Forum" is a member of Ukrainian Publishers and Booksellers Association, Ukrainian Library Association, and Exhibition Federation of Ukraine.

Ketevan Jakeli is an executive director at the Georgian Publishers and Booksellers Association (GPBA). Before joining the Book Platform and the GPBA, she has worked at Save the Children in Georgia and at the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia in the direction of textbook development. Ketevan has an educational background in English language (BA) and literature (MA), she has also worked as a teacher of English at a private language center and has conducted seminars in English literature at Tbilisi State University.

Iryna Lepska is Development and International Relations Director at Publishers Forum-Lviv, has been working for the company since 2010. She has experience in organizing the Lviv International Book Fair & Literature Festival and Lviv International Children Festival (since 2010), Context Festival in 2012, and other literature-related projects. Iryna holds an MA in Psychology and an MA in Management of educational institutions.



FORTHCOMING: SOFIA SUMMIT 6-9 DECEMBER

Annual meeting of the Book Platform Project Partners will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria, 7-9 December 2012. The meeting is organized by Next Page in order to give an opportunity to discussing key aspects of project implementation, as well as to facilitate planning for the next project period based on lessons learned from the project developments so far. FORTHCOMING: NEXT WORKSHOP "FAIR-PLAY AND COLLABORATION" TO TAKE PLACE IN LVIV ON 15-16 DECEMBER

The workshop "Fair-Play and Collaboration: Intellectual property, working conditions and collaborative actions for writers and literary translators" will take place on 15-16 December in Lviv, Ukraine.
