Reminder: Open Call: Book Platform Events Participation Grants

The Book Platform project announces its Events Participation Grants, designed for a wide range of people working in the book sector: cultural managers,
publishers, writers, translators, literary agents, etc. The Grants scheme aims at supporting sustainable international working contacts and exchange of book professionals from Armenia,
Georgia and Ukraine with colleagues from the EU countries as well as from the countries of the Eastern Neighborhood. The grants scheme is part of the Book Platform project funded by the European Union in the framework of the EuroEast
Culture Programme. The grants scheme has limited resources and is opened between October 21, 2013 and March 2014 (final reporting date). Read

Advisory Committees
| In addition to permanent exchange and consultations with key stakeholders in the book sector, each Local Partner organization is setting up local Advisory Committees to consult the project on concrete thematic issues and to provide ideas of its development. Currently, a total of six committees operate: in each of the three countries there is a committee on project activities associated with the topic "reading and reading promotion" and one on "translations and promotion of translations". On the Book Platform website you can find information about the committees members in the three countries, as well as memos and pictures from their work. |
Armenia: Public Debate "Reading and the Youth" in Armenia
| On 28 November 2013 Book Platform and the National Publishers Association held a public debate on the "Results of a Survey on Readership" and issues on raising interest towards reading among the youth at the Library of Yerevan State Linguistic University after V. Brusov. Read more... |
Georgia: Book Platform at the EU Cultural Week in Georgia
| Book Platform project participated in the EU Cultural Week in Georgia – "Let's Talk about Books", with a presentation and discussion, held at the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia on November 14, 2013. The event gathered about 25 people, among whom – Oliver Reisner from the EU delegation to Georgia, representatives of Georgian publishing houses, from National Parliamentary Library, translators, and other people actively involved and interested in the Georgian book sector. The European Culture Forum 2013

With its over 1200 attendants the European Culture Forum, organized by the European Commission, is indeed the biggest gathering of people in culture in
Europe. The central topics for this year focused on measuring culture and its value and impact, new
funding models (understood rather in terms of self-sustainability and generating income) and audience development. Book Platform's representative Yana Genova was at the Forum to participate at discussions and provide information on the project to Europe's policy-makers and cultural professionals. Read more... |

Visiting news: English PEN Awards a Promotion Grant for a Translation from Ukrainian

A Flight over the Black Sea by Ihor Pavlyuk, translated from Ukrainian by Stephen Komarnyckyj and published in the UK
by Waterloo Press is among the winners of this year's grants by the English PEN. Their Writers in Translation awarded a total of 22 titles in
its latest round of grant-giving. The awards are designed to bring more great international writing to more book-buyers and readers in the UK. Pavlyk's book is part of the PEN
Promotes, a grants programme supported by Bloomberg LP that supports publishers in bringing authors of translated work on tour to the UK, to meet and reach out to new readers. Congratulations to all the winners! For more information, see English PEN here. |
