International Editorial Visits - Armenia will take place on 18-20th Feb 2014, and will welcome a group of international publishers and book
professionals in Yerevan. Within the Editorial Visits a group of European book professionals will get to know the local market and will explore the cooperation possibilities in terms of
translation rights exchange. Among other invitees there are editors from several outstanding European mid-size publishing houses, which focus on the region or on international
translated literature.

Forthcoming: Workshop Training "Promotion of Literature in Translation" in Yerevan

The international workshop training Promotion of Literature in Translation will take place on 21-22 February 2014 in Yerevan. The aim of the workshop is
to explore - together with local book professionals from Armenia and Georgia, the various tools and approaches towards promoting literatures from "small" languages in translation into
other languages. The workshop gathers all key actors that play specific role in making a literature visible internationally: authors, translators, publishers, literary agents, public
bodies, NGOs, cultural media. In their capacity of recognized practitioners in the field, speakers from Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, the UK

Forthcoming: Public Discussion on Translations into Georgian

The results of the study "Translations into Georgian since 1991" will be presented on February 25, 2014. The study will be presented by the
authors Ana Kopaliani and Salome Benidze, and will be further commented upon by Barbara Wattendorf. The presentation will be followed by a discussion. The event will be kindly hosted by Goethe
Institute - Tbilisi. More information will be available soon on the project website.

New Study: Results of the Study "Translations into Georgian since 1991" Now Available
|
The research presented in the current brochure "Translations into Georgian since 1991" focuses on the state of
book translations from foreign languages into Georgian over the last 20 years. To provide the discussions on translations into Georgian with a context and a perspective, the Book Platform
project and the Georgian Publishers and Booksellers Association commissioned a profound study on translations to two experts Ana Kopaliani and Salome Benidze that have based their work on
primary statistical data and interviews with translators and publishers. The brochure also includes two commentaries on the research results by Georgian professionals in the
book/translation sector. Importantly, the last chapter of the text lists six key recommendations that offer a perspective for the future to all actors in the book and translation sector

Georgia: Public Discussion on Publishing and Bookselling in Georgia Took Place in Tbilisi
| The public presentation and discussion of the results of the study Book Publishing and Bookselling in Georgia took place in the Liberty Digital Hall of the Parliamentary Library of Georgia on January 24, 2014. The discussion was attended by over 40 publishers, translators, researchers, publishers, and other stakeholders, who gathered to analyze and discuss the outcomes of the study. Read more... |

Ukraine: Internship in Wroclaw Inspired Librarians from Lviv to New Projects

The multicentre, the multimedia library, "alive" books, places for meeting with authors, the room of "book tortures", a table mini-theatre Кamishibay
and many other zests were introduced to the librarians from Lviv during the Promotion of Reading internship which was held in December 2013 within the Book Platform project. The Wroclaw
City Public Library, in which the internship took place from 7 to 15 December, 2013, is one of the most modern libraries in Poland. During the one-week internship the participants were actively exchanging the professional experience with their Polish colleagues and establishing contacts for

Visiting News: New Resolution on Culture and Development Adopted by UN General Assembly
| Further to the two resolutions adopted in 2010 and 2011, on December 12, 2013 the UN General Assembly adopted by consensus a third resolution on culture and development. Building on the recognition of the role of culture for development acknowledged in the previous resolutions, the new resolution represents an important breakthrough on the development agenda as it explicitly recognizes the direct linkages between culture and the 3 pillars of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental pillars) as well as peace and security. The text clearly states that culture is both an enabler and driver of sustainable development and further spells out culture's potential contribution to sustainable production and consumption patterns. Culture is also recognized as an important factor enriching quality education through the transmission of shared values, knowledge and skills. Finally, the resolution highlights the importance of giving due consideration to culture and sustainable development in the elaboration of the post 2015 development agenda.
